London: Gerald G. Swan, 1945. First Edition. Hardcover. 1st edition. 2nd issue jacket with the authors name on the spine. Her first book? (references to earlier books under her given name, Eleanor Burford, are suspicious). A romance/adventure, that’s based on the idea that love already exists in the imagination before it exists in the heart. Half of her 200 or so books were written as Jean Plaidy (mostly historical romances) but she found wider fame with modern gothics as Victoria Holt. Cloth spine faded half a shade, else near fine, in a dustjacket with large chip to the back panel, and numerous others to the spine and front panel, else good. Scarce. Very good / good. Item #137
Among Eleanor Alice Burford’s pen names were, Jean Plaidy, Victoria Holt, Philippa Carr, Kathleen Kellow, Eleanor Alice Hibbert, Elbur Ford, and Ellalice Tate.
